On Wednesday 24th August, 9 students represented CJC at the Annual Debating Competition held at Brighton Secondary College. There were 11 schools involved from the region with approximately 3 teams each, all competing to be the best school. The judges were brought in by a professional debating company. Our teams consisted of:
Mika L, Divyanshi A, Jesse K
Lola M, Jordana W, Kaitlin K
Leon R, Mac S, George K
Special mention to students who were initially part of the team and helped complete some of the speeches but who were unable to take part in the actual day. Taylor A, Charlie G, Amos F and Daniel V.
Each team were required to have a prepared speech to debate with another school. These topics included:
"A mission to mars is a waste of money"
"Energy drinks should be banned"
"Violent video games should be banned"
It was an unbelievably proud moment when all of our teams won their first round debate and progressed to the second round. All students were able to experience success. Unfortunately, we did not progress to the later rounds, however each student put in a tremendous amount of work in their first speech as well as preparing their second-round speech. Our students displayed the following attributes. Leadership, teamwork, courage, effort and sportsmanship.
CONGRATULATIONS to all our debaters, CJC is so proud of you!!
